Parnu, Estonia Parnu is Estonia ’s main seaside resort, situated on the Western coast of Estonia, 1.5 hours from Tallinn. The Old Town is between the Parnu River and the Sea, making it feel like an island. But it's more than just a summer town. It is also a place for conferences, theatre performances and concerts. Besides being a much loved holiday resort, Pärnu is also a harbour town and a university town.
The sleepy rhythm of Pärnu changes completely in the summer – life on the beach, dozens of festivals, night clubs and a lively buzz in the air. The healing qualities of bathing in the sea at Pärnu was discovered by the Baltic Germans some 200 years ago. And now, in the 21st century, the area is enjoyed by Scandinavians and the rest of Europe. Mud baths, spas and recuperation centres are very popular. The attraction of Pärnu lies in the shallow sea bay, which becomes warm in June, and the wide, fine, white sandy beaches. The sun is particularly strong because of its position in the sky - that, and the clean sea air leave you feeling very relaxed and healthy! If beachlife is not for you, how about hiring a bicycle or some roller blades? Pärnu is also celebrated for its meticulously well-kept parks and for its stunning architectural landscape. l Spring or Autumn is the time to visit to avoid the holidaymakers, but if you visit in the winter, the bay and Parnu river are completely frozen, and you'll see people out on the ice, making holes and fishing. The yachts on the bay are replaced with ice-yachts and skaters.
